Gastric inversion, as the name suggests, is caused by the rotation of the stomach, which causes obstruction of the stomach front and back, and finally bloating due to fermentation of food in the stomach.
Although there are many hypotheses about the pathology of gastric inversion, there is no definitive hypothesis so far. Among the many hypotheses, abnormal relaxation of the gastric ligaments is the most commonly recognized cause of this disease. There are some factors that indicate that dogs are more susceptible to gastric inversion:

Gastric inversion affects three major body systems:
Compression of large veins
Affects the cardiovascular system

Abdominal distension
Affects the respiratory system

The rotation of the stomach causes
The gastrointestinal tract may be obstructed, and even part of the stomach tissue may be necrotized. The spleen may also be affected.

Clinical signs of gastric inversion include: rapid breathing, abdominal distension, excessive salivation, pale gums, restlessness, fatigue, and in severe cases, coma and shock. If the animal has the above symptoms, blood tests and abdominal X-rays should be performed immediately to confirm whether it is gastric inversion.
We recommend that dog owners feed their dogs small and frequent meals, avoid eating too fast, avoid strenuous exercise before and after meals, and always pay attention to whether your dog has symptoms of gastric reflux. If in doubt, take it to the veterinary clinic for examination immediately.
